Attending funerals and offering the funeral prayer

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (May Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said  “Whoever attends a funeral until he offers the (funeral) prayer will have one QIRAAT (of reward) and whoever attends until the burial is done will have two QIRAATS.” It was said: “What are the two qiraats?” He (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said  “Like two great mountains!”

Appreciating the Bounties of Allah Ta'ala

A renowned scholar of recent times was Hazrat Moulana Maseehullah Khan Saheb (Rahmatullahi Alayh). Hazrat Moulana paid special attention to aspects related to ettiquette and good mannerisms.
On one occasion a tailor approached Moulana and requested him for measurements in order that he may sew him a waistcoat. Moulana was seated at the time and experienced difficulty in standing up due to old age and physical ill health. Nevertheless Moulana stood up in order to hand over to the tailor the waistcoat he had on, to serve as a sample. But as he stood up he noticed his handkerchief in his waistcoat pocket. Instead of just throwing or dropping it down from that standing position, he chose to rather sit down again, remove that hankie, put it in its place and thereafter stood up and gave the tailor his waistcoat. He endured all this difficulty inspite of his extreme weakness only out of respect for the handkerchief which, though it may seem insignificant, it is nevertheless also the gift of Allah.
(Hayate  Maseehul Ummat Rahmatullahi Alayh, pg. 152)
Lesson: Every bounty is from Allah Ta’ala and therefore deserves special appreciation and respect, no matter how insignificant it may seem. To throw the handkerchief onto the floor also appears as if one is “throwing away” the bounty of Allah Ta’ala. Therefore this is to be totally avoided.

Deception of Shaytaan

Committing a sin thinking it will decrease (or eliminate) the desire for that sin (in the future) is a deception of Shaytaan. Yes, the desire will be decreased temporarily but the faculty and power of committing sin will be strengthened (long term) resulting in the eradication of sin becoming beyond ones power and strength.

Honour Your Guests

It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira (radiyAllaahu 'anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wa salam) observed: "He who believes in Allah and the Last Day does not harm is neighbour, and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day shows hospitality to his guest and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day speaks good or remains silent." Courage.... Key to Success

Courage is such a thing created by Allah that it enables a man, Muslim or non-Muslim, to accomplish exceptional feats and Allah blesses his efforts. Allah will certainly bless the courage of a believer who works hard to submit to Him and avert disobedience. Allah has blessed the quality of courage with exceptional power so that great things can be achieved with firm resolve.

The tasks that a person is asked to do are within his ability. He only has to show courage. One has to courageously show obedience and keep away from sin. One has to spend one's whole life doing it and if there ever is a slip, he must courageously renew his efforts. It is through courage that man moves forward but without courage he can do nothing in the world. Only courage enables him to do everything.

The method to correct deeds and inner condition is to oppose the sentiments of the nafs(lower self) and accustom it to hard work. The more you accustom it to hard work, the more it responds and you will get your work done, inshaAllah. As a result, the apparent deeds will be corrected and the unseen character will also be reformed.
